Ahhhhh Jealousy | Spiritual Direction - The Work, J.R. Mahon

jealous adjective

jeal·ous | \ ˈje-ləs  - hostile toward a rival or one believed to enjoy an advantage :

Come on… admit it, a part of your day is spent locked in jealous scroll on the face, the gram or the snap. You’re human, I get it, your secret is safe with me. Turns out jealousy is a shit emotion that does not, I repeat, does not take care of its host. We’d have a chance of exorcism if it weren't for the prebuilt shame that comes with it. It’s factory constantly manufacturing the lowest levels of value and worth, predicated on you not being enough. You feel me?

It’d be too easy to say, “Your good enough! God loves you, go out there and show the world what you're made of!” But “doing” ain’t necessarily gonna stop jealousy, it will only elevate it to “ambitious jealousy.” That's a bigger pain in the ass frankly. It might solve the problem temporarily but your value and worth need love not “success.”

Stopping jealousy needs one thing. Service. Now, I know I’m going old school but this is a sure thing. It ain't gonna be overnight and you must have patience but as you create opportunity to get outside yourself, you will free yourself from the inevitable chase of finding value and worth in somebody, something or somewhere else. I’m telling you… this is a sure thing! For those losing your minds, here is a list of things you can do to break the isolation of jealousy and shame and jump into service, thus creating love.

  1. Send someone a hand written note congratulating them on their success

  2. Celebrate the people you are with by listening more and talking less

  3. Ask questions about people's wants, needs and desires

  4. Fill people's needs, wants and desires anonymously

  5. DM someone you jealously stalk on the interwebs, tell them they inspire you to serve people.

  6. Pray for those you are jealous of. So hard, right? but this one will change the world.

BTW - the serving thing, as you serve people you will learn to take pride in yourself, loving yourself and that will help usher in an undefended strong posture with nothing to prove and nothing to lose, killing jealously.
